What a Shadow Feels Like: Heather B Swann Performance

Our friends at STATION, present what a shadow feels like, a group exhibition curated by Ellinor Pelz featuring Daniel Boyd, Dean Cross, Brent Harris, Nell and Heather B. Swann. Join them this Friday evening for a live performance by Heather B. Swann.

A shadow follows you; it is you and it is not. A shadow coerces light to the periphery as it consumes the volume of darkness cast by your physical presence. It hovers insistently, veiling meandering thoughts, memories, secrets and histories.

what a shadow feels like brings together the work of five contemporary artists that explore the poetic and the political. The included works intervene with the body’s path to shift perceptions, test psychological states and explore phenomenological observations. In this exhibition, a shadow is used as a metaphor for destabilisation and awareness; clarity and ambiguity; that which is lost and found.

The masterclass will also cover the problematic uses of certificates of authenticity in the context of sales of Indigenous Australian art, and the technological advancements shaping the future of this intriguing document.

About the Quarantine Art Fair

Quarantine Art Fair presents seven of Melbourne’s most notable galleries with presentations of work by some of the country’s most accomplished contemporary artists. This summer salon show, similar to the concepts often seen in the Hamptons, will provide a boutique experience for audiences to engage with not only the art, but with the whole experience of a summer outdoor event.

Participating galleries include: Kalli Rolfe Contemporary Art, Melbourne; LON Gallery, Melbourne; Murray White Room, Melbourne; Neon Parc, Melbourne; Sophie Gannon Gallery, Melbourne; STATION, Melbourne & Sydney and THIS IS NO FANTASY, Melbourne.

With Victoria’s recent lockdown, Melbourne’s galleries were closed for months on end, and what became more evident than ever was our collective need to experience art, and each other, in the real. We saw Quarantine Art Fair as not only an opportunity to support our artists and galleries, but to engage our audiences with the arts in a very relaxed yet sophisticated setting.”
— Jane Hayman, Fair Director
